a Webb of sound
or the world wide Webb

Webb Wilder.Hideway BBQ.12-1-06

First of all, this ain’t punk. At least not in the skinhead, Mohawk, can’t understand a friggin’ word you’re saying, nihilistic, look at me, I’m cool sense. This is rock AND roll music, both kinds. This is the real thang.

I have no clue if any of this ‘zines readers, YOU I’m talking to, will have ever heard a note from this guy but I don’t care. You NEED Webb Wilder.

About two months ago the Hideaway BBQ opened up in our fair berg and put a big ole sign out front promising us REAL country music, which, I am assuming, was the venue’s alternative to the Nashville pablum pop that saturates the airwaves and numbs minds too feeble to look further than the nose they are being lead around by.

I frankly have no patience with music “fans” that accept force feeding from the big four entertainment moguls without question or resentment. If you like for your dollar to buy Richard Branson or some other billionaire another failed balloon trip you may move on to the next page right now. If you think that being a certain age, having some bullshit “indy-cred” or wearing a black tee shirt means anything, just skitter on back under the rug.

But, if your mind is open and you have maintained the ability to rock your ass off without fear of losing membership to some exclusive CLUB then read on my brother, Webb Wilder and the Beatnecks are your kind of wild and wooly ride.

Look, I’m not planning to describe every funny face, every Telecaster twang, every twirl of the ever present fedora or even rattle off the bands wide ranging set-list, I’m just gonna tell you this; See it, buy it, rock it, roll it, just get to the next show this guy puts on and drink of the blessed nectar he delivers. Oh, I will tell you a couple of the highlights though; a pounding re-arrangement of Johnny Burnette’s “Little Boy Sad” and a stinging rendition of Dave Edmunds’ cover of Chuck Berry’s “Run Run Rudolph”. Happy Holidays indeed.

I guess the reason he didn’t play “Baby Please Don’t Go” was that he was afraid we’d keep him there all night.
