mini-disclaimer: while it is likely that the intent of this little magazine back in 78/79 was to offend as many people as possible while making an artistic and political statement. that is not my intent here. I present these for their historical importance to the "punk" scene in the triangle in its infancy. anyone have a copy of Volume 2?

Gaff
I only knew Chris' music through a short supporting set and as band member for one of Dave Alvin's visits to the Pour House. that was enough to leave an impression on me. I received this in my e-mail yesterday:
"Our good friend Chris Gaffney has been diagnosed with liver cancer and has been forced off the road. Please visit his web site to leave messages for Chris and his family and donate to the 'Chris Gaffney Recovery fund.' http://www.helpgaff.com/ ."
I hope you will enjoy the pictures and please keep Chris Gaffney in your thoughts.

words and emotions
the words that you long to hear
are on the tip of my tongue
but I just can't seem to say them.
emotions that I long to show
are deep within my soul
but I just can't seem to display them.
emotions that I want to show fail me.
the words that I want to say they'll be;
I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you
I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you
I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you
I love you, I love you, I love only you.

UBUWeb
I have always been a bit of a dada surrealist fluxus oddball and I am always looking to further my education into artists that run against the grain or do things so outrageous as to create spectacle, especially those historical figures that faced ridicule to have their distinctly MODERN ideas be seen heard read.
I also am interested in the links and inter-relationship between the artists that collaborated and the artists they influenced. an excellent place to do that is the UBUWeb. now that I have more time on my hands, I have been spending some time investigating the amazing amount of information collected there on these important artists and the forward thinking art they created.
though this I discovered Bob Cobbing and immediately thought that young Syd Barrett must surely have been aware of Bob's experimentation with words and sound or Bob was taking off on something he heard in the early Pink Floyd. I have never seen this connection made before but it seemed obvious to me immediately in the piece Chamber Music (1968) (9:01) . I was completely unaware of Bob Cobbings work myself until this week but I made the connection at the outset. Find out about him and more at the UBUWeb.

decisions decisions or waiting for spring to bloom
I haven't been writing anything. my brain is tuning in snow. I haven't played the guitar much. I moved every piece of the "studio" and wires are hanging loose. My engineer will be here in a few days to get me set back up so I can just hit record and get something down. I really want to get together with Michael to work on some of the harmonies I hear in my head, some of the dissonances as well :-) I'm somewhere between the show going off the air and the test pattern coming up. I realized that I had been consumed with the computer and getting it up and going so yesterday I worked outside in the garden for about 4 hours. I have tried to maintain a rigid schedule of getting out of the house at least once a day. before I retired, I knew I was getting up at six. had to be at work blah blah but now I have to CHOOSE what to do. still get up at six. It is too easy to sit around in a bathrobe all day and do nothing BUT, I want to make art and music. Only I have to provide the incentive, the will, the strength to actually DO it, DO something. I still feel on the cusp instead of there. I still have missing puzzle pieces and others that are chipped and broken. there is always something else to BUY. more fuel for the fire.
